About Miriam
My work has three different and distinct aspects. A person might think they are looking at work from three different artists.
I have been doing children illustrations for about 15 years. I have illustrated many books, jigsaw puzzles, magazine covers and stories, posters, etc... My style is very colorful, fun and whimsical. I work mostly in watercolors.
Four years ago I decided to take a break from that and go back to painting landscapes influenced by the bright colors and images of my country of origin: Peru and our trips around the world. My work is also very colorful, bold and very graphic. It also carries the influence of my children illustrations, my background as an Interior Designer and the work I did on architectural perspectives and renderings. I work mostly with acrylics and watercolor.
The third aspect is my botanical paintings, inspired from my love of nature and gardening. They show accurate and detail renderings of my observations of nature: animals, plants, birds, insects, amphibians, etc... I work mainly in watercolors and colored pencils.
These are three very different styles and I enjoy working on each of them. The children illustrations are lots of fun and full of imagination. The landscapes are very colorful and reflect my love of traveling and getting to know different cultures. My botanicals are delicate and a challenge to try to depict nature as it is.
